A Telunas faithful, David Chin, turned me on to the Vibram Five Fingers® craze. My understanding is that the “shoes” were made popular through Christopher McDougall’s book Born to Run. What has followed is something on the verge of a barefoot/minimalist running revolution.

While running would be on my list of things I’d eventually like to try in these slipper-like shoes, my interests lie elsewhere. I just picked up a pair of the Classic model in the U.S. and I’m itching to try these out upon my return to Telunas. “What exactly will I use these for?” you may be asking yourself. I can’t wait to slip these on and enjoy the protection of Vibram rubber while feeling barefoot as I amble down the jetty. I’m thinking they’ll be great for paddling in the kayak and not having to worry about hopping in and out. I’m even more excited about leading a group on the jungle waterfall hike to the black pool while strolling “barefoot” but protected and then climbing up a rock ledge and leaping into the cool pool that awaits.
Stay tuned for updates and photos of my adventures in my Classics. Or, grab your own pair of FiveFingers®, Chacos, Keens, or your favorite outdoor shoe and give them a try at Telunas.
